While living in rural Latvia, I found myself drawn to an old shed on the edge of the property – a mystical place that seemed to exist outside of time.
It was only later that I learned about its rich history and the ancient tradition of women giving birth in the ‘pirts’. According to folk beliefs, two goddesses are present in the bathhouse when new life begins. It’s a place to slow down, reconnect with the quiet pulse of nature and sense the spirits of earth and time.
